Virtuozzo 2.5 Hits the Virtual Streets
...Virtuozzo differs from other virtual servers on the market because of the way in which it partitions, SWsoft spokesperson Alex Plant told ServerWatch. The virtualization software offers up to 2,500 separate partitions per server. Each partition has the capability of a stand-alone server while being able to draw from other partitions.
The one major limitation to Virtuozzo's partitioning is that it does not allow multiple operating systems to sit on the same machine.
According to the vendor, tests run by SWsoft revealed Virtuozzo 2.5 to have the highest scalability of any x86 server virtualization solution available, supporting up to 64 GB of RAM and 16 CPUs per virtual environment (the logical partitioning that functions as a stand-alone server) as well as support for the Intel's HyperThreading Technology.
SWsoft ran tests of Virtuozzo 2.5 on IBM and Dell hardware. During 24/7 on IBM and Dell hardware, Virtuozzo proved it possible to run 2,500 virtual environments on a single server, for which it is now claiming the title of most efficient technology in its class.
Virtuozzo is marketed to hosting providers and enterprises...
