How can I make a direct registration?

In order to make a direct registration with Nominet UK, you must complete the direct application form on the web site. You should follow the instructions for completing the application form which can be viewed at http://www.nominet.org.uk/ref/instructions.html

Which domain names can I register direct with Nominet?

The direct application form can be used to register a domain name in the following Second Level Domains (SLD): co.uk, org.uk, me.uk, net.uk, ltd.uk, plc.uk and sch.uk. It cannot to be used for registrations in any Second Level Domain not listed above. To choose the most appropriate Second Level Domain see www.nominet.org.uk/news/guides/reg4.html

How can I check that the domain name is available?

You should check whether the name has already been registered by going to our WHOIS look-up at www.nominet.org.uk/whois.html. This will tell you if the name you wish to register has already been registered or not. If it has you will need to select another name.

What happens once I've completed the application form?

On receipt of a correctly completed application form, Nominet will email a pro-forma invoice to the billing contact address that has been supplied. You should then supply your credit card details to Nominet by fax, telephone or email, and quote your unique invoice number.

Please note that the Domain Name requested will not be reserved during this time and is therefore available for registration by another applicant.

How long do I have to pay?

You must pay for the domain name application within one month of receiving the pro-forma invoice. If you do not pay within this time, the pending invoice will be cancelled and you may need to re-apply.

How can I pay?

Nominet only accepts credit card payment for direct registrations. Payment can be made using either a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Solo, Eurocard or Switch credit card.

When Will the domain name be registered?

The Domain Name will be registered within three working days of receipt of the credit card details. Once the registration has been processed, you will be notified by email that your application has been successful, and a registration certificate will be sent to you within three months.

What if I want to make my registration more quickly?

If a Domain Name registration needs to be made immediately, it is advisable to register through an ISP who is a Nominet member http://www.nominet.org.uk/members/members.html

Can I send my application form as a hard copy?

Unfortunately, Nominet cannot accept hardcopy registration requests.
