Nominet is an active member of:

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) - A non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, Domain Name system management, and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities.

The Domain Name Support Organisation (DNSO) - one of three support organisations that make policy recommendations to ICANN and represent a number of constituency groups including Registries, ISPs, trademark and intellectual property interests.
- The Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR) - formed in April 1998 to provide a mechanism for national ccTLD Registries to exchange information and develop best practice.
Some of the current issues being addressed include:

the creation of new gTLDs

the formalisation of a three-way relationship between governments, ICANN and national Registries

the adoption of best practice procedures in ccTLDs
- the development of new methods of dealing with Domain hi-jacking (called cybersquatting)
