If you no longer require your Domain Name you may wish to transfer it to another user instead of surrendering it.

In order to transfer a Domain Name you will need to complete a transfer form, which can be found on the reverse of your registration Certificate. If you are not in receipt of a Certificate, a transfer form can be requested by the current legal registrant who should fax a letter to the Registration Department at Nominet UK on 01865 332295.

The legality of any transfer between Domain Name Holders is rigorously checked. Nominet is meticulous in ensuring that the transferor is entitled to request a transfer and that the correct authority has been given. It is vital, therefore, that Registrants ensure that all the information requested on the transfer form is provided correctly in order to avoid delays in processing requests.

Please refer to the following instructions when completing a transfer form:

  • The form must be completed by an authorised representative of both the current Registrant (Transferor) and the proposed Registrant (Transferee). The authorised representative must be a Director or Company Secretary in the case of a Limited/Public Limited Company, a senior partner in a partnership, the proprietor of an unincorporated business, or the Registrant themselves where the Domain Name is registered to a private individual. We will accept the signature of a senior official for other types of organisations, eg charities and trade associations.

  • The Transferee should complete the Details of New Registrant section, ensuring that on the Registrant Name line they enter their company's (or their own for an individual) full legal name, as this information will be recorded on the Nominet UK database.

  • Confirmatory letters agreeing to the transfer of the Domain Name must be produced on the headed paper of both the Transferor and Transferee, each signed by the same person who signed the transfer form.

  • The signatures for Transferor and Transferee must be from different people.

  • If either the Transferor or Transferee is an individual, they must write their confirmatory letter on plain paper and include their home address.

Once complete, the original transfer form (faxed or scanned copies are not acceptable) should be returned by post, along with the two confirmatory letters, to Nominet UK, Sandford Gate, Sandy Lane West, Oxford, United Kingdom, OX4 6LB.
