Changing Contact Details

Check the existing contract between yourself and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and find out about any penalties that you may incur by moving your Domain Name(s).

Moving to a Nominet Tag Holder

Once you have found a new provider, request that your current-ISP who is hosting your Domain Name(s) (the Tag Holder) moves the Domain Name over to the Tag of your new ISP.

If your ISP refuses to release the Domain Name(s) to your new ISP, you should provide the Nominet Customer Support Department with the following:

  1. A signed request to move the Domain Name(s) to your new ISP including full details of the problem you are encountering. This request should be on the letterhead of the Domain Name Registrant:

    • If the Registrant is a registered company please provide the request on your corporate letterhead including the full company name, its Companies House registration number and registered office

    • If the Registrant is a sole trader or partnership the letterhead should include details of the proprietor or partners

    • If the Registrant is a private individual the request must appear on letterhead that includes the Registrant's home address

  2. A copy of your request(s) to your ISP to release the Domain Name(s)

Please note that we cannot intervene to move the Domain Name(s) without evidence that you have already asked your current ISP to make the changes you have requested.

These documents may be sent by fax to 01865 332288 or by post.

If there is no contractual basis upon which your ISP can refuse to release the Domain Name(s) Nominet will be able to assist. Please be aware that Nominet must put your existing ISP on notice of your direct approach to Nominet and provide the ISP with at least two working days in which to provide evidence of their right to refuse to release the Domain Name(s).

Moving to a non-Tag holder

If the new ISP is not a Nominet Tag Holder, you should confirm to Nominet in writing the details of your new ISP. This request should be on the letterhead of the current Registrant, please see the details provided above at 1.

You will need to supply a list of the Domain Name(s) affected, and details of your new ISP's host machines. You must also notify your current ISP that you wish to move your Domain Name(s) to a non-Nominet Tag Holder. The Domain Name(s) will then be moved onto a neutral Nominet Tag, assuming there is no contractual basis on which Nominet cannot interfere with your current arrangement with your ISP. The Domain Name(s) will then be dealt with in the same way as a Direct Registration and are subject to the direct registration fee [renewal] charges.

Please note that Nominet will not knowingly interfere in a third party contract therefore in some circumstances it may take longer than two working days to clarify whether or not we are in a position to intervene and move your Domain Name(s) to a new ISP.
