Areas of Professional Practice:

  1. Professional Negligence:

    Principally institution-based plaintiff claims against solicitors arising from both non-contentious and litigation matters and surveyors.

  2. Commercial/Franchising

    Specialised in contentious and non-contentious work within the franchising and distribution industry since 1982, acting for both inbound master licensors, franchisors and groups of franchisees.General commercial and contract matters including commercial arbitrations.

  3. General Property Litigation

    All aspects of landlord and tenant litigation with an emphasis on mortgage possessions and forfeiture.

  4. Administrative

    Judicial review of property and professional disciplinary matters; appellate work in trading standards and consumer protection, principally for local authorities.

  5. ADR

    Both representation before and practice in mediation, conciliation and early neutral evaluation, principally in professional negligence, franchising and commercial disputes.

Andrew Goodman is a peripatetic lecturer on ADR. In October, 1990 he helped found and has since been secretary of the Professional Negligence Bar Association. He writes and edits The Court Guide (Blackstone 2001, 17th edn.) and The Prison Guide (Blackstone 1999). He wrote The RCJ Guide (Longman 1985) and The Walking Guide to Lawyer's London (Blackstone 2000) and has had numerous articles published in the legal and academic press; he writes for Commercial Lawyer and has appeared on Legal Network Television, Yorkshire Television, ITN News at Ten, the Discovery Channel, BBC Radio London, GLR and London Live, Radio Essex, Kent, Lancashire and the World Service. He has also written a number of books on late Victorian theatre and acted as a technical consultant on the oscar-winning Mike Leigh film Topsy-Turvy.

He is an editor of Professional Negligence and Liability Reports (Sweet & Maxwell) and a consultant member of the editorial board of The Journal Of ADR , Mediation and Negotiation (CLT). Between 1984 and 1990 founded and was managing editor of Frank Cass Professional Journals (now Tolleys) which included Computer Law and Practice and Advertising and Media Law and Practice. He has chaired seminars for Euroforum and lectured for Temple Lectures Ltd.

He has been designated a "leading junior" in Professional Negligence by Chambers Directory in 1995-6, 1996-7, 1997-8, and in ADR 1995-6, 1996-7, and in Professional Negligence in The Legal 500 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001.
